Cuba — June, 2013
Everything aligned as my friend Tom and I started putting together a plan to visit Cuba. A family friend helped us arrange a place to stay and our fundraising efforts went spectacularly well. We ended up donating over $1,500 of medicine to the Cuban Jewish community pharmacy. We spent close to four hours at a Mexican pharmacy buying everything on their wish list only to realize we still had half of the money we raised left. So we bought a whole other round.
We visited a cave-turned-discotechque, saw a pig butchered on a bus and the inside of the Cuban medicine system when Tom got brutally sick and couldn’t hold down fluids. (As did I, but a little less dramatically than my friend).
